ness at least once in any year, according to
studies by the Urban Institute.

the number of elders among the
homeless population in Massachusetts
has increased signifi-
cantly over the past few years.
We tend to think of homelessness as an urban problem, but
30% of homeless people live in rural or suburban areas,
according to the National Survey of Homeless Assistance
Providers & Clients.
The National Resource Center on Homelessness & Mental
illness has compiled statistics which show that 20% to 25%
of homeless people suffer from mental illness.
